The Lyngenfjord at a glance
The Lyngen peninsula has the Ullsfjord and Sørfjord on its western side and the Lyngenfjord and Storfjord on its eastern side. The mountain range between them is about 80 km (50 miles) long and the peninsula at most 15 km (9 miles) wide. Villages sit at a few places along the shore, and the ferries connect the two sides.
Not every village sits on the Lyngenfjord. Svensby, where the ferry from Breivikeidet arrives, lies on the Ullsfjord. Keep that in mind when you read a boat description, and check which fjord and which route a trip covers. Status October 2026.

Villages along the water
Where the places are and what they are used for.
Svensby
Arrival point of the ferry from Breivikeidet, on the Ullsfjord. Svensby Tursenter lists its location about 400 m (1,300 ft) from the ferry quay. It rents cabins and offers camping.
Lyngseidet
The hub for the crossing to Olderdalen. A local lodge puts the ferry terminal and the main bus stop in the village centre. A ferry also links the village with the E6.
Ferries and roads →Koppangen
Home of Koppangen Brygger, a business with cabins, hotel rooms and apartments on its own site. It is a provider, not an independent source of information.
Nord-Lenangen
Harbor where Lyngen Experience starts its boat activities. Its lodge and apartments are also in Nord-Lenangen.
For lodging in each place, see where to stay.

Boat trips
Lyngen Experience runs boat activities from the harbor at Nord-Lenangen, and guests from outside its lodges can book. The Targa boat takes at most 12 guests plus crew. According to the operator, tailor-made tours and transfers are possible all year. Exact departure times, child prices, discounts and cancellation in bad weather are not given in the description, so ask before you book.
Be careful with product names. The operator's Fjord Experience mentions Spildra, the Jøkelfjord glacier and Sørstraumen, so it is not a fixed loop inside the Lyngenfjord alone. Treat it as a regional offer and read the route first. A whale-watching tour is also listed from Nord-Lenangen. Whales cannot be guaranteed. For the whale scene around the city, there is a separate guide at Tromsø.
If you prefer to steer yourself, Svensby Tursenter advertises boat rental from 15 May to 30 August. The page gives no confirmed price for a specific year.

Viewpoints and short stops
Places where you see the water and the mountains together.
Lyngstuva
Reached from Russelv. The view runs over the sea and the islands in front, including Nordfugløya. It is a coastal destination, not a high summit. Details are on the hiking page.
Falsnesfjellet
From Falsnesfjellet there is a view toward the Steindalsbreen glacier.
The eastern shore
The Lyngenfjord and its mountains can be seen from the east coast, as in the photo at the top of this page. After dark, see northern lights for how to pick a spot.
Crossing by ferry
Two ferry lines serve the area. Line 191 runs between Breivikeidet and Svensby, and line 190 between Lyngseidet and Olderdalen. Norled AS operates them. Fares changed on 1 January 2026. People on foot and bicycles travel free on both lines. A car up to 6.0 m (20 ft) costs NOK 104 on line 191 and NOK 152 on line 190 one way, with discounts for AutoPASS holders. Crossing times are given as 20 minutes for Breivikeidet to Svensby and 40 minutes for Lyngseidet to Olderdalen, and other sources give 25 and 45 minutes.
Private cars cannot reserve a place. Details on timetables and fares are on the getting there page. Travelers continuing north can find Alta covered in its own guide. The photo shows a ferry at Olderdalen in 1963, a historical picture.
