A Lyngen Alps snowmobile day from Tromsø

A Lyngen Alps snowmobile tour starts in Tromsø, not in the mountains. Most days leave from the Prostneset terminal at Samuel Arnesens gate 5, cross the fjord by ferry and finish on established snowmobile trails with the Lyngen peaks around you.

One operator near the Svensby ferry terminal counts about 2.5 hours from leaving camp to returning, and not all of that is driving. Another, at Nord-Lenangen, describes its route as a mix of mountain, forest and fjord scenery. Routes and times change with weather, snow and trail conditions. Prices below are per person and valid as of November 2026.

Lyngen Alps snowmobile tours compared

The day tours look alike on paper, so the useful differences are length, how you ride and what is included. All of them provide a thermal suit, boots and a helmet, and all of them come with a guide.

The shortest day, €248. It takes about 7 hours with bus and ferry transfers, 60 to 90 minutes of riding and several photo stops. Two guests share one snowmobile and swap drivers halfway, so you ride for part of the time and sit behind for the rest. Hot soup and hot drinks are included. Pick it if you want an easy pace that puts nature ahead of speed.

The basecamp day, €250. Round-trip transport from Tromsø takes you to a basecamp, where a safety briefing and driving instructions come before the guided ride. The day lasts about 7.5 hours and includes an expedition meal. It suits first-timers who want instruction before they set off.

The full day, €284. This one runs 8 hours, with the ferry included and a vegan soup that can be made gluten free. Snowmobiles are shared even on a single booking, so a solo traveler rides with another guest. It is the most reviewed of the group, with more than 1,100 ratings.

The electric safari, €316. Same 8 hour format from the same Tromsø terminal, but on electric snowmobiles. The extra €32 over the full day is the difference for a quieter machine in the mountains.

The overnight package, €605. A transfer from Tromsø to the basecamp and back, a guided snowmobile ride, dinner, breakfast and a night in a crystal lavvo, with firewood. Unguided cross-country skis and snowshoes are included for the rest of your stay.
